Must Use Herbs List

I am not a huge advocate of taking supplements! I believe that we should get the majority of our nutrition from the foods that we are eating. However, there are a few herbs out there that can help fill the missing void from our Wild and Primal lifestyle. Let me explain….

50,000 years ago, we were indirectly getting small amounts of beneficial matter from roots, plants, nuts/berries, and things of that nature. Dirt, bacteria, fungus, and things like that were actually a very important ingredient to our natural health. I think that each and every person should have a few herbs that they take on a regular basis.

There are hundreds of choices out there, and many are even backed by science/research. If you would like to take a certain herb, to help improve a certain area of your life…… I highly recommend you go HERE, and take the herbal quiz to help guide you. Pine Pollen

If there is one herb, that packs a solid punch for overall health benefits, it would have to be Pine Pollen. Learn more HERE.

The pine pollen “tincture” is my favorite go to. It’s potent, easy to take, and lasts a long time when used in moderation. With the amino acids, vitamins/minerals, antioxidants, hormone support, and detox benefits that pine pollen offers, it’s considered a superfood. 50,000 years ago, you know we were getting pine pollen in our systems. Have you ever been near a pine tree in the Spring, when it is pollenating? The pollen flows through the air. Other than breathing it, have you ever eaten a pine nut (the early growth of a pine cone)? They are delicious, very nutritious, and usually packed with some amount of pine pollen on them!

If you have a good source of pine trees near you, you can actually harvest your own pine pollen (and make your own pine pollen tinctures)! There are many useful videos, and articles out there on making your own tinctures.

Whether you purchase your pine pollen, or go out and harvest your own, it’s a must have!! Get to utilizing the amazing health benefits that nature provides. We were meant to use what nature provides, not chemical laden/processed foods/sources. The more we can get our vital nutrients from quality animals, plants, and nature, the better our gene expressions will be towards fighting illness/disease! Your Wild and Primal instincts are starving for stimulation, give it to them!! Get yourself some Pine Pollen however you can!!

Turmeric

I use turmeric every night in a drink that I make. The history of turmeric use goes back thousands of years. Aside from this herb helping me lose fat during my lifestyle change (230 pounds down to 180 pounds now), it offers so much more!

  • Lowers inflammation
    • Inflammation has been linked to heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, degenerative conditions, and insulin resistance
  • Contains bioactive compounds
  • Contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
  • Boosts levels of valuable “brain” hormones
  • Benefits your body on a cellular/molecular level, possibly helping to prevent/treat cancer by addressing rogue cells/free radicals
  • Can help treat/prevent arthritis
  • Shows benefits of reducing depression related processes

It is a no-brainer why turmeric has been used for thousands of years to help improve/support health! Again, it’s 100% natural, provided by nature.

If you decide to give turmeric a try, there are a few things to consider before using it. Turmeric contains different compounds. One of the important “medicinal” compounds that turmeric carries, is curcumin. Curcumin is fat soluble, which means that is breaks down, and gets absorbed by the body in the presence of fat. That is why, when I make my drink, I add my turmeric to a cup of full fat/raw cow milk (watch the video in this post).

Also, the body does not absorb curcumin very effectively. The compounds within turmeric tend to get broken down by our bodily processes (liver, stomach acids, etc.) before our body gets a chance to absorb/utilize the full benefits of this herb. It is recommended to add black pepper to the turmeric, to help increase the bioavailability (ability for the body to utilize it) of the turmeric.

There are different approaches to this concept. I mix 7 tablespoons of turmeric powder, with 1 tablespoon of black pepper, in a jar. I then use the mixture from this jar for my drinks. I will add more of this mixture (7: 1 ratio of turmeric: black pepper) into the jar as needed.

I like the taste of turmeric, when mixed in with my milk (and other ingredients). Some people don’t like the taste though. For those of you that do not like the taste, I would encourage you to use the turmeric capsules. These capsules already have black pepper added to them, so the added bioavailability is already there! When using the capsules, you get all the benefits of using the powder, without the taste.

With the inclusion of Pine Pollen, and Turmeric in your life, you will be on your way to expressing those Wild and Primal genes your body needs!! Don’t forget though, there is so much more to expressing health promoting genes, than just picking up one or two good habits……

I know what it feels like to watch cancer steal the people you love. My mom is battling melanoma, I lost my dad and grandma to pancreatic cancer, and most recently lost my grandpa to colon cancer. Those experiences lit a fire in me — I wanted to know if cancer was truly just "genetic fate," or if there was something we could actually do about it. Through my own health struggles, I discovered the power of a primal, sustainable lifestyle: eating real food, moving in ways that build strength, and creating a body that’s far less inviting to disease. Now, I coach people who share the same fears I once had — those with cancer in their family history who want to take back control of their health. My mission is simple: help you defend your future by building a body cancer hates, so you can stack the odds in your favor and live with strength, confidence, and peace of mind.
